Our team members participate in formal learning, information sharing and networking through memberships in our own industry associations.
Ruth has spent over 30 years in the association management, convention and meeting planning fields. She has lived and worked in Canada, the UK and France and speaks English, French and German. Her areas of expertise include strategic planning, partnership positioning, marketing, programming, association management, recruiting and international convention management. Ruth obtained her Certified Meeting Professional in 1995 and participates in several industry associations including the Canadian Society of Association Executives, American Society of Association Executives, Association Management Companies Institute, Meeting Professionals International and Tourism Toronto where she has held various volunteer roles over the years. Ruth has recently been appointed to the Board for Association Management Companies Institute Canadian chapter, she sits on Ryerson University’s “Magnet” Advisory Council (a digital resource project) and serves on the Nominating and Governance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee of the Mackenzie Health Foundation and on various committees at JVS Toronto, where she is Past Chair of the Board.
Renee Levine is a seasoned professional, having worked in the not-for-profit world for over 30 years. Her special expertise is in working with Boards of Directors and committees, helping to drive success through proactive strategic expertise and a solid understanding of governance. Renee works closely with associations from inception-phase, to well-established international organizations. She is currently the Executive Director of several major clients at Base Consulting, where she has been instrumental in implementing solid plans for sustainability- financially and organizationally. She has organized conferences around the world on behalf of clients. Volunteer work has always been a focus in Renee’s life, both personally and within the association sector, including current involvement with the Association Management Companies Institute. She has been written up in “Who’s Who of Canadian Women”. Renee holds an Honours degree in Industrial Relations and Economics from McGill University.
Global Sourcing COO & IRO
Thomas’ career began by being asked to arrange a high profile government delegation visits to Canada as a favour to a friend. This first glimpse into logistics and meeting planning 23 years ago hooked him on the industry. Thomas is Chief Operating and Industry Relations Officer of Base Sourcing Inc. Thomas’ passion for the industry has been driven by a commitment to excellence in client services and high ethical standards. He has been a member of the Caesars Windsor Advisory Forum, the NavStar Aviation Advisory Board, and most recently has managed the Advisory Board of Tourism Saskatoon. Thomas’ work in our industry has been acknowledged by recognition from Fairmont-Raffles-Swissôtel, Hilton, IHG, and Ritz-Carlton. Aside from work, engaging with the broader community has been important to him. From 2005-2011, Thomas was appointed by the City of Markham to the Markham Environmental Advisory Committee, and being voted in as chair for the 2010/11 term. From 2002 to 2010 he served one of his most challenging volunteer roles: a first responder with Victim Services of York Region (VSY), a not-for-profit organisation in partnership with York Regional Police. In 2013, Thomas was the recipient of the Mayor’s Award for Valued Contribution to the Community by the City of Markham. Thomas has been a member of SITE Canada since 2013. He received his Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS) designation and has since been appointed to the faculty of SITE Global, teaching the CIS course for colleagues from around the world.
Senior Account Executive
Emma joined Base Consulting in 2012 with an initial focus on management of all cross-country meeting and educational events for one client, where we were the external project partner. Subsequently, Emma has provided team leadership and association management for several national associations, supporting Boards and various committees, developing Strategic Plans, marketing and business development plans and providing overall direction. Emma acts as team leader to her Conference Manager and Communications colleagues. She is an accomplished meeting professional, and has held a volunteer portfolio with the Meeting Professionals International Toronto Chapter. Emma previously spent 10 years in the corporate world.
Nina Freitas is our Office Manager at Base Consulting and Management Inc. Nina joined the firm almost fifteen years ago. Her background in the insurance and financial industries followed by a stint in the real estate business all combine by contributing enormously to her roles here and Nina is an integral member of the senior staff. Nina began her career as an insurance claims clerk, and followed this with a position in their Human Resources department, managing the administrative side on behalf of employees, tracking and record-keeping, and performing preliminary personnel interviews. Subsequently, she joined the Accounting department of a large financial institution conducting their administrative business. She then joined a real estate development company as Administrative Assistant to two senior partners, concentrating primarily in the accounting area, and managing accounts payable, bank reconciliations, liaison with other financial institutions, and a variety of office administration responsibilities. At Base Consulting and Management Inc., Nina oversees the management of the entire office, the internal Base accounts, as well as over a dozen associations managed at Base. She concentrates in the areas of bank deposits, accounts payable, billing, maintaining staff record-keeping, ordering of supplies and maintaining vendor relationships.
Senior Account Executive
Cristina joined Base in February 2009. Cristina’s role includes Membership and Association management as well as conference planning with two clients in the health care sector. Following an early career in early childhood education and as a legal assistant, Cristina fell into the world of “trade show & association management”. She has had an opportunity to work for the following associations: the American Production of Inventory Control Society – Toronto Chapter (APICS Toronto Chapter), the PMI-SOC (Project Management Institute), the Canadian Association of Women Executive Entrepreneurs (CAWEE) and Canadian Association of Professional Speakers (CAPS). With over 16 years of association, communications, conference management, membership and website oversight expertise. At Base Consulting she manages conferences and events across Canada, North America and Internationally. She has implemented numerous marketing plans and has overseen the design, transition and management of multiple client websites.
Global Sourcing Associate
Mahima has been associated with the hospitality and tourism industry since 1999. She started her career at Marriott WelcomHotel in New Delhi, India as an events coordinator and moved over to sales with Ananda in the Himalayas at their Delhi sales office. She moved to Canada in 2006 and her last job in India was with the Imperial Hotel, New Delhi – a renowned 5 Diamond hotel, where she was responsible for the key leisure travel accounts. She continued her career in Canada with Starwood Hotels & Resorts and worked at 2 of their properties in Toronto before moving out west as a Director of Sales with Magnolia Hotel & Spa in Victoria, British Columbia. Mahima established herself within the Canadian hospitality industry through her dedication, hard work and perseverance. In 2010, she returned to Starwood with Four Points by Sheraton where she was responsible for the sales, marketing and revenue decisions for the property until its closure in 2012. In 2011, she took on the additional responsibility of chairing the Four Points Coop, which comprised of Directors of Sales & Marketing and the General Managers of 9 hotels within Ontario. All along, Mahima continued to invest in herself. She has certification in both Marketing and Revenue Management from eCornell and has also completed a course in Strategic Selling, which was offered by Starwood; this certification was delivered by a Master Connections trainer.
Global Sourcing Associate
Catherine is a Global Sourcing Specialist with core competencies in relationship building, research, negotiating, contracting, executing budgets and managing the complexity of varied projects and clients. Catherine is contracted to Base Sourcing Inc. for the sourcing aspects of her work and does operations on a free-lance basis. After 10 years of sourcing experience with a leading travel, meetings and events company Catherine has gone independent and joined forces with Base. She has worked with both large dedicated clients and independents and is proficient with strategic hotel sourcing and corresponding negotiations. Her greatest strength is in relationship-building; both with clients and hotel peers which has resulted in high customer satisfaction scores and repeat hotel business. She is current with evolving trends in the industry through a robust network and regular attendance at trade shows and conferences.Catherine lives in the country with her husband and dog. She’s a avid cyclist and skier as well as a mother to 6 wonderful and grown up children.
Sales And Marketing
Gavin holds more than 10 years experience in branding, digital marketing, social media and website development. With a degree in Business Commerce, he is focused on devising solutions that help to grow his client’s online success. Gavin brings a deep understanding of his clients needs along with a friendly and professional attitude to all Base’s client engagements.
Junior Account Executive
Lara joined Base Consulting in January 2016 as a Junior Account Executive. She previously spent three years working in corporate logistical management and sales support. With a business background and an Honours degree in Psychology from Queen’s University, Lara transitioned seamlessly into association management. She works methodically, attentively and enthusiastically with several national associations and specializes in logistics, speaker management, marketing, communication and event planning. Lara is a member of the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE).
Larissa runs our accounting team, providing full-cycle accounting and routine administration. Larissa’s consistently high ratings from multiple external auditors each year attest to her attention to detail and commitment to continuing education.
